AI for Kids (AI4K)

AI for Kids is a programme to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) to primary 4-6 school children through a blended learning approach with online, classroom and hands-on activities. The curriculum is designed by AI Singapore in partnership with NUS High School of Maths and Science. It teaches participants machine learning concepts and how to use popular tools such as Scratch and Microsoft Azure’s Cognitive Services to build basic AI applications.

AI4K Certified Instructor Programme

AI Singapore invites SINGAPOREANS of the following groups below, to be upskilled and trained to teach AI for Kids (AI4K) to our primary school students.

1) Existing parents in Parent Support Groups in MOE Primary schools;
2) Those who intend to apply as Parent Volunteers to Primary schools;
3) ICT facilitators, OR
4) MOE school teachers

This will be done through our newly launched AI4K Certified Instructor Programme. We developed this so that schools can build a pool of expertise to run AI4K lessons in house at their own timings.

As part of the training to become an AI4K Certified Instructor, you will acquire basic knowledge of AI and learn how to build a simple AI model with online tools yourself.

As an AI4K Certified Instructor, you can access AI4K lesson materials and Azure accounts for your usage to deliver the AI4K lessons.

With your support, AI Singapore hopes to achieve the goal of having every MOE upper primary school students in Singapore to learn about AI.

Certification Process

AI4K Train-the-Trainer

This is a 3-days course conducted by AI Singapore and its AI4K Lead Trainers . Trainees will learn AI4K curriculum and be able to present and conduct the hands-on activities independently.  After passing the TTT, trainees will have to fulfil facilitator duty at at least 1 AI4K public Bootcamp in Dec 2019/Jan 2020.  Upon completion, trainees will receive the “AI4K Certified Instructor” certificate.

The course fee is SGD 480 (excl. GST).    Certification is only valid for 2 years.

What is AI4K?

Who is AI4K for?

AI4K curriculum is designed for upper primary school children in mind (10-12 years old). Having said that, if your child is interested to learn, there is no restriction to age! Happy learning!

AI4K Certified Instructor Programme

What is a Certified Instructor?

This is a certificate will be awarded to Parent Volunteers who has a “Literacy in AI” certification and pass our AI4K Train-the-Trainer course. As a certified instructor, you will have full access to our AI4K lesson and materials and be qualified to teach AI4K-branded workshop in the primary school you are volunteering in.

What is Train-the-Trainer (TTT)?

This is a 3-day course conducted by AI Singapore and our AI4K Lead Trainers. Trainees will learn AI4K curriculum, be able to present and conduct the hands-on activities independently. The trainees will be peer-reviewed and graded by AI Singapore.

How long is the TTT Course?

The duration of the course will be 3 days long (6 hours per day). You are required to attend all 3 days, and pass AISG’s assessment and peer reviews, and facilitate at least 1 AI4K public Bootcamp in order to be certified.

Do I need to pay for the TTT?

Yes, the fee is SGD 480 (excluding GST).

Can I use my SkillsFuture credits to apply?

No, this programme is currently not part of SkillsFuture initiative.

I am currently working and cannot attend the TTT Course. Should I still apply?

In order to qualify as an AI4K Certified Instructor, you are required to attend all TTT workshops. We will be organising more TTT sessions in the future. Please sign up for our mailing list to stay updated.

Does it mean that I will get accepted into a Primary School of my choice with Phase 2B?

No.  AI4K Certified Instructor Programme is not related to MOE Parent Volunteer Scheme.

Eligibility

Who can apply to this programme?

  1. Existing parents in Parent Support Groups in MOE Primary Schools.
  2. Parents applying to MOE Primary Schools for Parent Volunteering.
  3. ICT facilitators in MOE Primary Schools.
  4. MOE School Teachers.

I am not a Singapore citizen, can I apply?

I am not a parent but would like to volunteer. Should I apply?

This programme is tailored for Singaporean parents who are currently volunteering or wish to participate parent volunteering in the coming years.

Certification

I have attended AI4E previously. Do I need to attend again?

You are not required to attend the face-to-face workshop but you are required to complete the online version of AI4E

If you have attended AI for Everyone (Parent Volunteers Edition) on 26 October 2019, you are not required to attend the workshop or the online module again. 

If I cannot attend 1 out of 3 days of the TTT workshop, can I attend that day in the next session?

No, you are not allowed to replace any lesson and 100% attendance is required to be certified.

How long is this AI4K Certified Instructor certificate valid for?

It is valid for 2 years.

Is it compulsory to obtain the Datacamp account if I have prior knowledge to do the "Literacy in AI (Parent Volunteer Edition)" quiz?

It is not compulsory. DataCamp is a learning resource which may aid in your understanding.

I have an IT background. Am I still required to complete the Literacy in AI (Parent Volunteer Edition)?

Yes, you are required to complete Literacy in AI (Parent Volunteer Edition) before applying for the TTT.

Can I arrange dedicated sessions for my school's teachers / parent support group to attend the TTT course?

Yes, the school must commit to a minimum class size of 10 participants (TTT course fee applies).

Will I be able to conduct AI4K Bootcamp outside primary schools on my own after my certification?

No. However, AISG can organize the session with you as the lead trainer.

I cannot make it for the TTT workshops in Nov 2019, when is the next TTT?

The next TTT course will likely be in Feb 2020.
